The Coziest Coupe
My daughter was once a glorious napper. Four- sometimes six-hour snooze-fests as she zoomed through her infant and toddler years. I was a stay-at-home-mama and kept myself very busy by painting and making colorful mischief. I dedicated it all to her. I wanted to maintain my identity as a maker for her sake. I want her to look back on what I made and remember me as more than Mom, but as a Woman With Ideas.
This one. This was very special. I don’t think I’d really yarn-bombed anything in my life before this inspiration struck.
I bought the Cozy Coupe from a neighbor who in turn had bought it from a mutual dear friend. I know it’s vintage-ish since it has the metal rods supporting the roof rather than molded plastic as seen in later models. Plus, the door latches with a metal hasp screwed on with hardware screws. I’m guessing one of its former drivers’ dads must’ve taken it upon himself to enact that fix. So, as I struggled to make my kid’s childhood magical on a severely-limited, no-income-earning budget, I realized that instead of painting this little car and watching my handiwork slowly chip an scratch away with wear, I could use what I was already hoarding: crocheted blankets, colorful sweaters, orphaned granny squares, and yarn yarn YAAAARRRNNNN.
Gimme a hot-glue gun and a few hours with the baby asleep upstairs and I can make your (my) automotive dreams come true.
